Monastery Beach
aka
Mortuary Beach
aka
Cemetery Beach
(yes, they all rhyme)
Nicknamed by locals because so many out-of-town visitors (that would be "YOU") have drowned at this beach.
While not in the one square mile that comprises Carmel-by-the-Sea (this beach is on Highway 1 on the way down south to Point Lobos and Big Sur) "Cemetery Beach" is so dangerous that an exception is being made to include mention of this exceedingly dangerous beach.
Look across Highway 1 - if there is a 1920s Spanish style monastery (actually, a convent) on the inland side of the Highway, you are at Monastery "Cemetery" Beach.
So just how dangerous is it? If you Google the words:
Carmel Monastery Beach drowning
Google will come up with over 100,000+ articles:
