Casanova:
Angelo Casanova was appointed resident pastor of the Catholic Church in Monterey in 1870. Even though his church was in Monterey, he was the first to attempt to save the abandoned and rotting mission in Carmel. Father Casanova served as pastor of the Monterey church for twenty-three years, until 1893, and continued his efforts to restore San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo to its former glory.

Father Juan CrespĂ 1721 – 1782
Majorcan missionary and explorer of
Las Californias ("Baja" + "Alta").
In 1769 Franciscan Father Crespi joined the expedition of Gaspar de Portola and traveled by land, while Father Serra accompanied the mission supplies aboard ship and arrived 8 days later to occupy Monterey.
